It is finally here! The most anticipated movie of the Summer hits with a bang! Spider-Man returns after a 3 year absence in one of the most expensive movies ever made. According to estimates, along with heavy marketing for the film, it is believed to have cost $500+ Million to make.

Peter Parker (Maguire) is madly in love with Mary Jane Watson (Dunst). He believes it is time for him to ask her to marry him. Everything is balanced in his life as Spider-Man and Peter Parker. New York City was finally respecting their crime fighting hero. He was even in the running for the staff job he had always wanted at the Daily Bugle. Life was good...until new information that his Uncle's killer is still alive turns everything upside down.

Furious, Spider-Man wants to find this mad man and get revenge on his Uncle's murder: The Sandman. But before Spider-Man goes after the Sandman, a strange black substance from space turns Spider-Man's suit black and brings forth a darker side of Spider-Man and Peter Parker that no one has seen before. Peter gives in to his dark personality and starts to lose everything he loves most. Now he must choose whether to give in to his dark side or fight it.

What Worked: This movie doesn't take long to get going on tremendous action. The first sequence between Peter Parker and the New Green Goblin doesn't disappoint. The effects are tremendous and impressive. The battle scenes with the Sandman, New Goblin, and Venom are some of the best action battles you will see all year. Venom is incredible and Topher Grace played Eddie Brock/Venom extremely well. Tobey Maguire showed us why there can be no other Spider-Man with his wide range of acting.

What Didn't Work: I think they crammed too many villains into the film. The New Goblin could have waited for Spider-Man 4 as you really didn't get a true sense of how Harry came to be the New Goblin and you didn't get much development with Harry's character. The Sandman could have had more time to develop as he is pretty much thrown in the film without a lot of background. I also think there was not enough Venom in this film.

Bottom Line: If you are looking for a no holds barred action fest with a

little bit of drama and comedy mixed in, then this is the movie for you. It is definitely one of the best films of the summer and proved that with its record breaking 1st weekend of $151 million. All of the actors in this film are first rate and do a fantastic job. I saw this film in IMAX and it was totally worth the price of admission with a huge 5 story screen and 12,000 watts of surround sound. Go see this film in IMAX or Digital. You won't be disappointed.

Oscar Buzz: Special Effects are definitely a shoe-in here, but no major awards. The song by Snow Patrol "Signal Fire" is great and should be up for best song.
